When it comes time to purchase Braille
Paper, there are many important questions and considerations. We,
at American Thermoform Corporation, have addressed these topics
below. Please call us with any additional questions that you may
have.
1. Why choose ATC for your
Braille Paper needs?
American Thermoform Corporation has
been producing Braille Paper since 1988. We are the only manufacturer
of Braille Paper that is actually in the Braille business. We
have teamed up with paper specialists and have developed a paper
made specifically for us, to be used in today’s standard
continuous form Braille Embossers. ATC is the largest distributor
of production Braille Embossers in North America and we know exactly
what type of paper works best, and what to watch out for. Using
the wrong paper and “odd-lots” that many of our competitors
use, can cause serious damage to your Braille Embosser. Additionally,
our paper is created at a single mill, ensuring consistency in
color and texture from order to order.
American Thermoform Corporation has been providing products for
the blind and visually impaired since 1962. We have been providing
Braille Paper to these individuals since 1988. No other Braille
Paper companies can say the same. Braille is our business and
we are proud to be able to serve you with the finest Braille Paper
and products available.
2. What
are the standard sizes and formats?
The standard finished Braille Paper
sizes (once you tear off the tractor feed edges) are 8.5x11”
and 11x11.5”. We offer both sizes in either plain or 19-Hole
pre-punched formats. The 19 holes are punched on the left hand
side and are meant to be used with standard binding rings. All
of our Braille Paper is continuous form (tractor feed) to be used
with these types of Braille Embossers. Single sheet Braille Paper
for use in Perkins Braillers or single sheet embossers is also
available.
If your Braille embosser uses roll
paper, please note that we also provide our Braille Paper in that
format, as well. Standard roll sizes have a width of 9.5”
and 12.5” (to allow for the 1/2” perforation to be
torn off). Should you need a different size, please contact us
and we will order it for you.
3. Things
to consider when purchasing Braille Paper?
Quality of the paper itself.
You want to use an Acid & Dust free paper. Additionally, you
want to ensure that your paper comes from a single mill, ensuring
quality and consistent paper each time you order. ATC paper is
from a single mill and the highest quality available.
Weight of the paper. A
paper that is too thin will cause holes in your Braille dots when
Brailled. If the paper is too thick, it could damage your embosser.
ATC uses ideal paper weight that has been specially designed and
formulated for us.
Quality of the finished product.
It is important to have clean tractor feed holes to ensure no
problems going through the embosser. You also want to make sure
that if you choose the 19 Hole format that the holes are completely
punched out. Otherwise, you will have issues binding the finished
pages. It is also important to have clean perforated edges once
is it separated. Lastly, it is important that the paper is packaged
correctly into the box to minimize folding and damage during shipment.
We have strict compliance guidelines and are continuously checking
the boxes to ensure top quality.
Shipping & Turnaround time of Braille Paper. Shipping
is extremely important. To ensure safe travels, ATC uses triple-walled
cardboard on the top & bottom, and all sides. This help to
minimize any damage during shipment. The last thing you want is
to get the paper and have the corners beat up.
It is also important to verify that
your paper will be shipped in a timely manner. We keep all Braille
Paper sizes and stock and they are shipped the same day that the
order is received. Shipping can be made via US Mail, UPS, or your
preferred provider. We can ship by Ground or Next Day Air, and
anything in between. We can all ship via Free Matter for the Blind
for those that are qualified under US Postal Service regulations.
4. Ultimately
choosing your Braille Paper
When ultimately choosing the paper,
it is important to go with top quality, great customer service,
and a fast turnaround; all at a fair price. American Thermoform
Corporation has that. Our paper is the finest available and is
used all across the world by government agencies, educators, individuals
and many, many more. When comparing our price to our competitors,
you will see that even with exceptional quality, we are up to
40% less expensive.
We appreciate your interest in our Braille Paper and other products
for the blind. It is a pleasure to serve you and we thank you for
your patronage.
